Rodniki, Ivanovo Oblast

Rodniki (Russian Родники ) is a Russian city with 26,310 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the Ivanovo Oblast. It is the center of the same name Rajons the Oblast.

Location

Rodniki is located about 600 km north-east of Moscow and 54 km east of the regional capital Ivanovo, near the river Jukscha from the river system, the Volga River. The nearest town is Witschuga 15 km to the northeast. Rodniki has several natural mineral springs, which it owes its name ( Rodniki = " water sources ").

History

Rodniki 1606 was first mentioned as a village, which had at that time a part of the protection and Intercession Convent of Suzdal. From the 17th to the 18th century Rodniki was economically insignificant, until the end of the 18th century first textile companies, who specialized in the processing of the area around Rodniki grown Leines originated there. In 1820 there was founded a textile factory, with around 10,000 employees later counted among the largest of its kind in the Russian Empire. After the October Revolution in 1917, the factory was nationalized and later converted into a combine, the site has already received city rights in 1918.

Economy and infrastructure

Today there are in the city especially food and textile industries, the latter is, among others, founded in 1820, former factory ( today: Aktiengesellschaft Rodniki - textiles). There are also in Rodniki a mechanical engineering company.

In Rodniki is a 350 meter high radio mast for FM and TV, which was built in 1977.
