Rodogune

Rodogune is a tragedy in five acts (1844 verses ) by Pierre Corneille. The piece was premiered late in 1644 or early in 1645, Corneille and considered it one of his best.

Corneille took the substance to the Roman historian Appian of Alexandria. The title character Rodogune is a Parthian princess who awakened the jealousy of the Syrian queen Cleopatra. Cleopatra commits suicide after unsuccessful intrigue.

Lessing wrote about the tragedy in the 29 to 32 pieces of Hamburg Dramaturgy ( August 1767 ) a devastating slating.
