Rodrigo Hinzpeter

Rodrigo Javier Peter Hinz Kirberg ( born October 27, 1965 in Santiago) is a Chilean politician.

The lawyer of Jewish descent is married to journalist Joyce Ventura and has three sons named Raimundo, Guillermo and Ernesto. He spent his school years at the located in the eastern part of the Chilean capital Instituto Hebreo Doctor Chaim Weizmann and Liceo A 67 Alexander Fleming. Subsequently, he studied until 1992 Law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Later he taught, among others, as a professor of civil law at this university. He is also author of the book " La Hipoteca " ( Ediciones La Ley, 1993). Peter Hinz, member of the Chilean Bar Association, also worked as an attorney in the New York law firm " Simpson Thacher & Bartlett ." He belongs to the Renovación Nacional, whose founders he also counts. Within the party, he had held the position of Secretario Nacional and was from 2001 to 2004, the First Vice-President. He was also a member of the Comisión Política. In 2005, he worked as a campaign manager during the presidential election. In the subsequent election, he served as General Coordinator of the campaign team.

Peter Hinz is since March 11, 2010 Minister of the Interior in the cabinet Sebastián Piñera. On 5 November 2012, he joined the succession of Andrés Allamand as Chilean Minister of Defense.

Criticism

Hinz Peter is criticized for the legislative initiative Ley Peter Hinz. This envisages to pull the organizers and initiators of a meeting in riots to justice. A first initiative for this law was made by Peter Hinz in June 2012 after the years of school and student protests. As far-reaching criminalization of social movements, the legislative initiative of Amnesty International has been heavily criticized.
