Roger Birnbaum

Roger Andrew Birnbaum ( born November 14, 1950 in Teaneck, New Jersey) is an American film producer.

Life and work

Roger Birnbaum was born in Teaneck, New Jersey. His father worked in the textile and construction industries. 1968 ended Birnbaum education at Teaneck High School. Among his classmates were located, film critic Leonard Maltin and the composer Alan Silvestri. Silvestri and Birnbaum were close friends in high school and continued this friendship later in Hollywood continues. Birnbaum studied at the University of Denver entertainment and music. He left that, however, one year before the completion to start his musical career. He worked as Vice President of A & R for A & M Records and Arista Records.

His work in the film business began Birnbaum in 1983 with the production of television films. He has served as President of Production for United Artists and later as President of Worldwide Production and Executive Vice President at Twentieth Century Fox and president of Caravan Pictures. Then founded with his business partner, Gary Barber production, finance and distribution company Spyglass Entertainment in Los Angeles. Since December 2010 he works at Metro -Goldwyn -Mayer, Co - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. At Spyglass, he has continued to hold the post of co-chairman in the administration. Birnbaum produced numerous feature films and participates in feature films and music productions, foreign sales companies and exhibitions.

1985 Birnbaum was awarded an Emmy. In 2008 he won an Independent Spirit Award for the production of the film The Lookout.

Birnbaum is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has an honorary doctorate in humanities from the University of Denver and is a board member of YES, a foundation that awards education scholarships for underprivileged children.
