Roger Blandford

Roger Blandford ( born August 28, 1949 in Grantham, England ) is a British astronomer and astrophysicist.

Blandford received his doctorate in 1974 at the University of Cambridge and was from 1976 to 2003 professor at the California Institute of Technology. Since 2003 he is professor at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and Stanford University and director of the Kavli Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology. His priorities are cosmology, astrophysics of black holes and gravitational lenses.

He discovered along with Roman Znajek the Blandford - Znajek process for the recovery of energy from a black hole.
