Roger Michael Needham (CBE FREng FRS) ( born February 9, 1935 † March 1, 2003 in Willingham, Cambridgeshire) was a British computer scientist.

Among his theoretical contributions is the development of the Burrows - Abadi - Needham logic for authentication. Together with Michael Schroeder, he developed the Needham - Schroeder protocol, which is the basis for authentication and key exchange in Kerberos. Likewise, he was involved in the development of the Tiny Encryption Algorithm ( TEA) and the extended TEA, both algorithms for block encryption.

1962 Needham began for the Computer Laboratory to work, which was then called Mathematical Laboratory. In 1980 he became Head of the Laboratory, 1981, he was professor and remained faithful to the laboratory until his retirement in 1995. Needham founded in 1997 Microsoft's British research center.
