Towards the end of the 1st millennium BC founded the Ligurians, a settlement in the plane as well as small retreat in the hills. The Romans, who settled since the end of the 2nd century BC in the region, founded some new places, including Rudanicum, which derives the current community name. In the early Middle Ages, the meaning of the place went back though, it was never completely abandoned. Around the year 1000 the castle of the village men were in the church and built a settlement in the hinterland. In the mid-15th century, this was however abandoned and the people settled back in to the Etang de Berre.
