Roh Tae-woo

Roh Tae -woo (* as Ro Taigu on December 4, 1932 in Taikyu, sub-province Keisho - hokudō, Chosen Province, at that time the Japanese Empire, today's South Korea ) is a former South Korean general and politician. He was from 1988 to 1993, the sixth President of South Korea.

Life

On July 11, 1983 Roh Tae Woo took over the post of chairman of the Seoul Olympic Organizing Committee, which he surrendered on May 7, 1985 Park Seh - jik. He took over the party chairmanship of the Democratic Justice Party.

The military rulers Chun Doo -hwan had chosen him as his successor. In the first democratic elections in South Korea after the military dictatorship in 1987 crude could prevail against the candidate of the democratic opposition. The right to vote in accordance with this, the relative majority sufficed for him. Since the opposition could not agree on a single candidate and Dae -jung went with Kim Young- sam and Kim into the race, Raw won with only 36.6 percent of the vote. In the following presidential election in 1992 crude was eventually replaced by Kim Young- sam.

Before and during Roh's presidency began in 1987 pro-democracy demonstrations in Seoul and other cities of South Korea, which have been perceived internationally during the Olympic Summer Games 1988.

Raw is married and lives in Seoul. His son is the manager and billionaire Chey Tae -won.
