Rohrmoos -Untertal is a municipality with 1403 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district Liezen ( Judicial District Schladming ) in Styria.

It consists of the two towns and cadastral tube moss and Untertal.

The municipality comprises the cadastral tube moss and Untertal. Neighboring communities:

  • In the north: Schladming
  • In the East: House, Gössenberg, Pruggern, Kleinsölk
  • In the South: Lessach, Göriach, Maria Pfarr, Weißpriach (all in the state of Salzburg)
  • In the West: Pichl- Preunegg

Geography

Rohrmoos extends from approximately 750 meters above sea level ( Ennsufer west of Schladming ) up to 2,862 meters. The highest point is the summit of Hochgolling. Pipe moss covers an area of ​​146.34 km ², making it larger than the Styrian capital Graz (128 km ²).

Main settlement area is the north-eastern slope of the Hochwurzen with numerous courtyards, guest houses and hotels. In addition the fast mountain on the northwestern slopes of the Planai and the two narrow but elongated Tauern valleys Obertal and Untertal. Both streams from these valleys unite in the north of the parish to Talbach that breaks through a narrow gorge steep Schladming.

In the mountains on the southern boundary of the municipality (zinc wall, cousin tip) mining was carried out from the early Middle Ages to the 19th century, especially silver, nickel and zinc. Parts of these plants are now a museum and tourist mine.

At the valley of Untertal are the Riesachfälle, which are the highest waterfalls in Styria.

Coat of arms

Rohrmoos -Untertal leads since July 1, 1971 the following coat of arms: In a green shield a reduced silver finished with black mine drawing tip, accompanied by a golden sword right cross, left by a golden sheaf. It is reminiscent of the mining, farming and shortage riots at the time of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation and the farming tradition in the community.

Tourism

The well-known tourist resort has annually about 460,000 overnight stays.

Main attractions for tourists are the ski resorts Hochwurzen and Planai, which are mostly located in the municipality and drive in the winter slopes for skiing and sledding, and offer deep snow runs.

In summer, the pipe moss is the starting point for hikes to well-known mountain lakes in the Lower Tauern ( Riesachsee with alpine trail through the hell, Klafferkessel, Giglachsee ).
