Rói Patursson

Rói Reynagarð Patursson [ rɔujɪ ] ( born September 21, 1947 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese writer and philosopher. He is also director of the Community College of the Faroe Islands.

Life

After the St. Frants school in Tórshavn and the secondary school visit Patursson ran from 1964 to 1965 at sea, after which he worked in various jobs on land in Torshavn and Copenhagen. In 1968 he undertook a trip to Europe and then attended high school in Tórshavn until 1969.

From 1970 to 1985 Patursson lived in Copenhagen. In 1973 he married Solrun Johannessen, with whom he 1974 Unn daughter Cecilia got. In 1976 he began his studies in philosophy at the University of Copenhagen, where he graduated in 1985 as Master. Meanwhile came 1981, the second daughter Liv Mary to the world.

Back in the Faroe Islands in 1985 taught Patursson at night school and the University of the Faroe Islands and made radio broadcasts for the Útvarp Føroya. In 1987 he took a post as a lecturer at the Skrivekunst Akademiet in Bergen. Since 1988, directs Patursson the Community College of the Faroe Islands in Torshavn.

Rói Paturssons literary works include poetry and short prose. For the collection of poems Líkasum 1985 he received the Literature Prize of the Nordic Council in 1986. This award is only awarded to an author in the year, and Rói Patursson is next to William Heinesen the only Faroese writer who got it so far.
