Roiffieux

Roiffieux ( [ ʁwafjø ], okzit. Reifiòc ) is a commune with 2776 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the canton of Annonay - South of Ardeche in the Rhone-Alpes region, a few kilometers south of Annonay. After Annonay and Davézieux Roiffieux is the third largest municipality in the Bassin d' Annonay.

The community members are called Réfocalien and Réfocalienne.

Roiffieux successfully takes part in the national competition for community beautification.

Geography

As a starting point for hikes Roiffieux offers spectacular views of the Vercors massif and the mountain ranges of the Western Alps.

History

At the time of the Revolution of 1789 was evaded in the name of " Fieux libre " to avoid the word " Roi " (King).

The municipal area there are several old castles and many testimonies of beautiful old architecture.

Population

The sudden increase in rates should be based primarily on immigration from the nearby Annonay.
