Roland CR-78

Roland CR -78 is a drum machine, which came on the market in 1978.

Although the device seems primitive by today's standards, it set for its time a huge improvement in drum machine technology dar. If you look at the wooden case and the saved rhythms such as waltz, rock, tango, bossa nova or Rumba, it is obvious that the designers have the CR -78 seen essentially as an instrument for monitoring organs. However, he became a popular tool in the New Wave and electronic musicians in the late 1970s and the early 1980s. The machine can also be heard on some well-known songs, such as Heart of Glass by Blondie or In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins.

Technology

The sound generation of the CR -78 is analogous. An early Intel microprocessor was installed for digital control of the editing options. The instruments should be simulated, not sound natural, but have their own sound. The CR -78 was the first programmable drum machines ever, and Roland has paved the way for later TR- 808.
