Roland Leighton

Roland Aubrey Leighton ( born March 27, 1895 in London, † December 23, 1915 in Louvencourt ) came as a fiancé of Vera Brittain to prominence. Leighton whose parents Robert and Marie Connor Leighton were both writers, also wrote poems that he did not independently published, but sent in letters to his fiancée. As a student at the Uppingham School he met Vera Britains brother Edward to know, and along with Victor Richardson, the three young men were dubbed as the " Three Musketeers". Leighton had received a scholarship to the University of Oxford. Rather than take up studies, he was accepted in October as an officer in the Royal Norfolk Regiment. As an officer with the Worcestershire Regiment in the spring of 1915 he came to France to the front. Leighton was badly wounded by a sniper and died in a field hospital in Louvencourt.
