Roland Schimmelpfennig

Roland Schimmelpfennig ( born September 19, 1967 in Göttingen) is currently the most frequently performed dramatist presence in Germany. His plays are performed in over 40 countries. Schimmelpfennig, who also works as a director, is not representative of the post-dramatic theater, but in the tradition of literary drama: for it thus remains the literary text the starting point and central reference point of the productions of his plays. Schimmelpfennig's plays have dramatically advanced to the present, dispense approximately fixed assignments of roles and actors, are usually collage-like structured, regularly contain surreal or fantastic moments. Schimmelpfennig has its own form of narrative theater developed in which figures exceed their roles steadily to - addressed to the audience - to describe themselves or to report on its own. The viewer is always reset in distance to the game as it allows Schimmelpfennig at the same time on the narrative opportunity for emotional involvement in the sitter.
