Roland Schoeman

Roland Mark Schoeman ( born July 3, 1980 in Pretoria, South Africa) is a South African swimmer.

At the age of 16, he began in earnest with the swimming training. After only a few months he denied the first competitions and his athletic career went from strength to. At the Commonwealth Games he won a gold medal, two silver medals and one bronze medal.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens he won a gold medal with the South African 4x100m freestyle relay in world record time, silver in 100m freestyle and bronze over 50m freestyle. In the swimming world championships in 2005 in Montreal, he twice improved the world record in the 50m butterfly and became world champion. Schoeman was also world champion in 50m freestyle. He is the first man who swam under 21 seconds 50 meters.
