Rolbing

Rolbing (German Rolbingen ) is a commune of 275 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and Canton Volmunster.

Geography

Rolbing (referred to Lorraine Platt also Rolwinge ) is located in the northern Vosges, located in the extreme north-east of Lorraine on the border of the Palatinate Hornbach. It is the northernmost tip of Bitscher little country at the transition to Zweibrücker hills. The municipality is part of the biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest -Vosges du Nord.

History

Cairns indicate the presence of the Celts. From the Gallo- Roman period are various archaeological finds. A first mention of the village was carried out in 1303 under the name Roulbingen (supposedly of Rodulf = Germanic first name ). The ending ingen speaks for a Frankish establishment, possibly through the Kloster Hornbach.

Ecclesiastical Rolbing belonged until 1858 to the parish Loutzviller and since then Volmunster. Politically Rolbing 1790-1801 associated with the defunct Canton Breidenbach and since then belongs to the canton Volmunster.

The district sub- area in the north of Rolbing still retains the character of an original Lorraine peasant village.
