The Rolf C. Hagen Inc. is a production and distribution company for pet supplies, headquartered in Montreal, Canada. It was founded in 1955 by Rolf C. Hagen ( born September 11, 1932 in Grömitz, † October 22, 2011 in Montreal ), and has now (as of 2008) about 1200 employees worldwide.

History

In the initial phase, the company made import transactions with fodder crops and Zoobedarfsartikeln. In the 1960s, regional wholesalers were taken and the late 1960s, the company had a national wholesale network. With the help of his two brothers Dieter and Horst Hagen Hagen Hagen- founder of the company, the Group into the world's largest privately held production and distribution company for pet supplies developed in the following years. The focus of the overall program are in the aquarium hobby, intensified since the 1990s in the areas of rodents and pond and in recent years in the areas of dog, cat and terrariums.

Development and research activities

  • Many Hagen innovations in the fields of dogs, cats and rodents are product developments and are designed and developed in Montreal via specialized computer systems and experts to animal - and user- oriented criteria in the CAD / CAM Centre.
  • The HARI ( Hagen Avicultural Research Institute) is a company incorporated in 1985 bird breeding research station near Montreal for the rearing of birds and to develop and test new high-quality feed and feed additives. The station is home to over 350 pairs of birds, including more than 58 species of parrots. Research Director, Mark Hagen, nutritionists and zoologist with research focus parrot breeding.
  • The H.A.R.S. ( Hagen Aquatic Research Station) is an aquarium, development and test station with over 250 aquariums for analytical testing of food, filtering and water chemistry with modern data collection and analysis.
  • The Hagen AquaLab is a teaching and research facility at the University of Guelph in Ontario / Canada, one of the leading universities for marine biology. Here simulation experiments are used for different water habitats carried out under controlled environmental conditions, studied entertainment and culture opportunities aquaristischer organisms and created conditions for training experiences for students with aquaristischem interest.

Hagen Germany GmbH & Co. KG

The Hagen Germany GmbH & Co. KG is the oldest and largest subsidiary of Hagen Canada. It was founded in 1959 under the name " WORLDWIDE " with headquarters in Hamburg. In 1974 the company moved to Holm. Since 1996, the company operates under Hagen Germany GmbH and Co. KG. It has about 190 employees. The current range includes some 3500 items. The German subsidiary is responsible for the German market and almost all Western and Eastern European export market.
