Rolf Michel

Rolf Michel ( born January 21, 1945 in Tambach- Dietharz ) is a German physicist. He is since 1984 professor of radiation protection at the Leibniz University Hannover.

He was from 1999 to 2006 member of the German Commission on Radiological Protection ( SSK) and is since 2008 again a member of the SSK, which he chaired from January 2008 through December 2011. Since 2012 he is Chairman of the SSK crisis team.

2008/2009 he was president of the German -Swiss Association for Radiation Protection.

His work focuses on the areas of radiation transport, radiation detection and radio analysis, production of radionuclides in nuclear reactions, interaction of cosmic rays with matter and Radioecology.
