Romain Mesnil

Romain Mesnil ( born June 13, 1977 in Le Plessis- Bouchard ) is a French athlete and current vice world champion in the pole vault. Mesnil has a competition weight of 79 kg at a height of 1.88 m.

Since 1998, Mesnil could jump every year at least about 5.71 m, making it one of the extended world class pole vaulter. His best jump he showed in 2003 with 5.95m. For large international championships but he was rarely far put forward, usually he failed as at the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 in the qualification. His best year was 2001 when he won bronze at the World Indoor Championships and finished 5th place at the outdoor World Championships. The finals of the European Championships 2006 took place in the pouring rain, of which the experienced jumper benefited. Behind the Israeli Alexander Awerbuch jumped 5.70 m, Mesnil finished with skipped 5.65 m together with the German Tim Lobinger place 2 A year later Mesnil took at the World Championships in Osaka ( Japan) Silver again. Mesnil skipped just like the medalist and world best years Brad Walker ( USA) 5.86 m. After Mesnil retired at the 2008 Olympic Games in qualifying, he returned in 2009 a medal back. With 5.85 m, he finished at the World Championships in Berlin in 2009 to second place behind the Australian Steven Hooker.
