Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Antofagasta

The Archdiocese of Antofagasta (Latin: Archidioecesis Antofagastensis, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Antofagasta ) is a Chile located in the Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Antofagasta.

History

The Archdiocese of Antofagasta in 1881 by Pope Leo XIII. as a mission sui juris Antofagasta built. 1887, the mission was sui juris Antofagasta raised to Apostolic Vicariate. On February 3, 1928, Pope Pius XI. the Apostolic Vicariate of Antofagasta to the diocese. It was the Archdiocese of La Serena is a suffragan. The Diocese of Antofagasta announced on 21 July 1965 from parts of its territory establishing the Territorialprälatur Calama.

On June 28, 1967, the Diocese of Antofagasta was by Pope Paul VI. raised to an archbishopric.
