Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Botucatu

The Archdiocese of Botucatu (Latin: Archidioecesis Botucatuensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Botucatu, state of São Paulo.

History

The Archdiocese of Botucatu was born on June 7, 1908 nimiam by Pope Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution Dioecesium erected as a diocese of the Archdiocese of Botucatu from annexations São Paulo. The Diocese of Botucatu was the Archdiocese of São Paulo is a suffragan. The Diocese of Botucatu announced on July 4, 1924 parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Sorocaba. For more territorial concessions were made on 21 June 1926 foundation of the diocese Cafelândia and on 30 November 1928 foundation of the diocese Assis.

On April 19, 1958, the Diocese of Botucatu by Pope Pius XII was. with the Apostolic Constitution Sacrorum antistitum raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Botucatu announced on February 15, 1964 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Bauru. For more territorial concessions were made on 2 March 1968 on foundation of the diocese Itapeva and on 30 December 1998 establishing the bishopric Ourinhos.
