Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Braga

The Archdiocese of Braga (Latin: Archidioecesis Bracarensis ) is a location in Portugal Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Braga.

History

The Archdiocese of Braga was built in the 4th century as the Diocese of Braga. In the 12th century the diocese of Braga was raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Braga announced on March 23, 1545 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Miranda. For more territorial concessions were made on 20 April 1922 foundation of the diocese Vila Real and on 3 November 1977 foundation of the diocese of Viana do Castelo.

The Archbishop of Braga is also the Primate of Portugal.
