Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bukavu

The Archdiocese of Bukavu (Latin: Archidioecesis Bukavuensis ) is a located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Bukavu.

History

The Archdiocese of Bukavu was posted on December 26, 1929 by Pope Pius XI. built with the Apostolic Constitution Vestigiis Decessores of annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Congo superiore as Apostolic Vicariate of Kivu. On 10 January 1952, the Apostolic Vicariate of Kivu were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Vicariate Kasongo. The Apostolic Vicariate of Kivu was renamed on January 10, 1952 in Apostolic Vicariate Costermansville. On January 6, 1954, the Apostolic Vicariate Costermansville was renamed Vicariate Apostolic Bukavu. The Apostolic Vicariate of Bukavu announced on June 30, 1959 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Vicariate of Goma.

On November 10, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate of Bukavu was by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Bukavu, on 16 April 1962 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Uvira.
