Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chieti-Vasto

The Archdiocese of Chieti - Vasto (Latin Archidioecesis Theatinus - Vastensis, Italian Arcidiocesi di Chieti - Vasto ) is a located in Italy Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Chieti.

Already in the 6th century there was a bishop's seat in Chieti. On 1 July 1526 the diocese of Chieti was elevated by Pope Clement VII with the Bull Super universas to the Metropolitan Archdiocese and the dioceses of Penne, Atri and Lanciano under him as suffragan dioceses.

With the Apostolic Constitution Fructuosae ecclesiae of 2 March 1982, Pope John Paul II assumed the archbishopric of the Archdiocese of Chieti Lanciano - Ortona suffragan. On September 30, 1986, the Archdiocese of Chieti was completely united with the diocese of Vasto, after the two dioceses were previously held in personal union by a bishop by a decree of the Congregation for Bishops.
