Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Durango

The Archdiocese of Durango (Latin: Archidioecesis durangensis, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Durango ) is a location in Mexico Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Victoria de Durango.

History

The Archdiocese of Durango was incorporated on September 28, 1620 by Pope Paul V. from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Guadalajara as a diocese Durango. On May 7, 1779 Diocese of Durango were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Sonora. Other annexations took place on July 18, 1826 establishing the bishopric of Saint Louis and in 1850 the foundation of the Apostolic Vicariate of New Mexico. The Diocese of Durango announced on June 23, 1891 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Chihuahua.

On June 23, 1891, the Diocese of Durango was by Pope Leo XIII. raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Durango announced on November 22, 1958 from parts of its territory to the foundation of built by the Apostolic Constitution Qui hominum Diocese of Mazatlán. For more territorial concessions were made on 13 January 1962 on the establishment of the Territorialprälatur Jesús María del Nayar and on 10 June 1968 establishing the built with the Apostolic Constitution Non habentibus Territorialprälatur El Salto. On 25 November 2008, the Archdiocese of Durango were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Gómez Palacio.
