Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Guwahati

The Archdiocese of Guwahati (Latin: Archidioecesis Guvahatinus ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Guwahati in India.

History

Pope John Paul II established the Diocese of Guwahati with the Apostolic Constitution Opitulante quidem on 30 March 1992 from the dioceses of territory Tezpur, Tura and of the Archdiocese of Shillong, where it was assumed as a suffragan.

With the Apostolic Constitution Indorum ecclesiales it was raised on 10 July 1995 to the Metropolitan diocese.

On 10 May 2000, lost part of its territory for the establishment of the Diocese of Bongaigaon. Since the establishment of the local Ordinary Thomas Menamparampil SDB.

Territory

The Archdiocese of Guwahati includes the districts of Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, Nalbai and Goalpara in Assam.
