Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis

Located in the U.S. Archdiocese Indianapolis (Latin: Archidioecesis Indianapolitana ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

It was spun off on May 6, 1834 from the diocese of Bardstown and erected as a diocese of Vincennes with the areas of Indiana and eastern Illinois. As such, it now belonged to the Ecclesiastical Province of Cincinnati. Already on 28 November 1843 gave to the diocese of Saint Louis, some areas on the establishment of the Diocese of Chicago before the Diocese of Fort Wayne was taken out of him on 8 January 1857. On March 28, 1898, the diocese changed its name to Indianapolis. On 21 October 1944, the Diocese of Evansville was built from parts of the diocesan territory.

Since October 21, 1944 Indianapolis is an archbishopric, whose ecclesiastical province comprises the state of Indiana and is situated dioceses Gary and Lafayette in Indiana.
