Roman Catholic Archdiocese of La Serena

The Archdiocese of La Serena (Latin: Archidioecesis Serenensis, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de La Serena ) is a located in Chile Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic church located in La Serena.

History

The Diocese of La Serena was born on July 1, 1840 by Pope Gregory XVI. built with the Papal bull Ad Apostolicae fastigium of cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile and this is a suffragan.

On May 29, 1939, the Diocese of La Serena was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Quo Provinciarum to an archbishopric. On 9 November 1946, the Archdiocese of La Serena gave parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Administration of Copiapo. The Archdiocese of La Serena announced on April 30, 1960 from parts of its territory establishing the Territorialprälatur Illapel.
