Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Libreville

The Archdiocese of Libreville (Latin: Archidioecesis Liberopolitanus ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Libreville, Gabon. It includes the provinces of Estuary and Moyen- Ogooué.

History

On January 22, 1842, the Apostolic Prefecture of the two Guineas and Senegambia from the Diocese of Funchal and the diocese Tomé was founded. In 1846 this was converted to the Prefecture Apostolic Vicariate of the two Guineas and Senegambias, this renamed on February 6, 1863 in Apostolic Vicariate of the two Guineas and finally on March 18, 1890 in Apostolic Vicariate of Gabon.

On 10 July 1947, the Vicariate of Gabon was renamed Vicariate Libreville and converted to the diocese on 14 September 1955. Three years later became an archbishopric on December 11, 1958 from the diocese.
