Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Madurai

The Archdiocese of Madurai (Latin: Archidioecesis Madhuraiensis ) is a located in India Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Madurai.

History

The Archdiocese of Madurai was on January 8, 1938, Pope Pius XI. built with the Apostolic Constitution Si inter Infideles of cessions of territory of the Diocese of Trichinopoly Diocese as Madura and the Archdiocese of Bombay, is a suffragan. On 21 October 1950, the diocese was renamed the Diocese of Madura Madurai.

The Diocese of Madurai was posted on September 19, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Cum ad aeternam to an archbishopric. On May 17, 1973, the Archdiocese of Madurai were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Palayamkottai. Other annexations took place on 3 July 1987 foundation of the diocese Sivagangai and on 10 November 2003 on the foundation of the diocese Dindigul.

The Archdiocese of Madurai includes the located in the state of Tamil Nadu districts Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar and located in the district of Dindigul talukas Batlagundu, Kodaikanal, Natham, Nilakkottai and four parishes in Taluka Dindigul.
