Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manaus

The Archdiocese of Manaus (Latin: Archidioecesis Manaënsis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Manaus in the state of Amazonas.

History

The Archdiocese of Manaus was posted on April 27, 1892 by Pope Leo XIII. built with the Apostolic Constitution Ad universas orbis out of territory of the Diocese of Belém do Pará as a diocese Amazon. The Diocese of the Amazon was the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia is a suffragan. On May 1, 1906, the Diocese of the Amazon was the archbishopric of Belém do Pará is a suffragan. The diocese Amazon announced on August 15, 1907 from parts of its territory establishing the Territorial Abbey Our Lady of Monserrate do Rio de Janeiro. On May 23, 1910, the Diocese of the Amazon were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Prefectures Alto Solimões and Tefé. Other annexations took place on December 15, 1915 establishing the bishopric Caratinga and on October 4, 1919 establishing the Territorialprälatur Acre e Purus. The diocese Amazon announced on May 1, 1925 from parts of its territory establishing the Territorialprälaturen Porto Velho and Lábrea.

On February 16, 1952, the Diocese of the Amazon was by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Whether illud raised to an archbishopric and renamed the Archdiocese of Manaus. The Archdiocese of Manaus was on July 12, 1955 from parts of its territory establishing the Territorialprälatur Parintins. A further transfer of territory took place on June 26, 1961 establishing the Territorialprälatur Humaitá. On 13 July 1963, the Archdiocese of Manaus were parts of its territory from establishing the Territorialprälaturen Borba, Coari and Itacoatiara.
