Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maputo

The Archdiocese of Maputo (Latin: Archidioecesis Maputensis ) is a location in Mozambique Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Maputo.

History

The Archdiocese of Maputo was established on January 21, 1612 by Pope Paul V with the Apostolic Constitution In supereminenti out of territory of the Diocese of São Tomé as Apostolic Administration of Mozambique. The Apostolic Administration Mozambique in 1783 by Pope Pius VI. raised to Territorialprälatur. On September 4, 1940, the Territorialprälatur Mozambique were parts of their territory from establishing the bishoprics of Beira and Nampula.

The Territorialprälatur Mozambique was posted on September 4, 1940 by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Sollemnibus Conventionibus to the archbishopric archbishopric Lourenço Marques and renamed. The Archdiocese of Lourenço Marques, on 3 August 1962 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Inhambane. A further transfer of territory on 19 June 1970 foundation of the diocese João Belo. On September 18, 1976, the Archdiocese of Lourenço Marques was renamed the Archdiocese of Maputo.
