Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mariana

The Archdiocese of Mariana (Latin: Archidioecesis Marianensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Mariana, Minas Gerais.

History

The Archdiocese of Mariana was born on December 6, 1745 by Pope Benedict XIV with the Apostolic Constitution Candor lucis aeternae erected as a diocese of Mariana of territory of the Diocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro. The diocese of Mariana was the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia is a suffragan. On June 6, 1854 the diocese of Mariana were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Diamantina. The diocese of Mariana was placed under the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, suffragan on 27 April 1892. On 4 August 1904, the diocese of Mariana were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Pouso Alegre.

The diocese of Mariana was elevated by Pope Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution Sempiternam humani generis on 1 May 1906 Archdiocese. On 18 July 1918, the Archdiocese of Mariana were parts of its territory from the foundation of the diocese aterrado. Other annexations took place on February 11, 1921 to the founding of the diocese Belo Horizonte, on February 1, 1924 in Juiz de Fora foundation of the diocese, on 28 March 1942 foundation of the diocese Leopoldina, on 21 May 1960 for the foundation of the diocese of São João del Rei, on 14 June 1965 on the foundation of the diocese Itabira.
