Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mbarara

The Archdiocese of Mbarara (Latin: Archidioecesis Mbararaensis ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Mbarara in southwestern Uganda.

On 28 May 1934, the Apostolic Vicariate of Ruwenzori was established from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Uganda and raised on 25 March 1953 to the diocese of Mbarara, which was the archbishopric Rubaga assumed as suffragan. On 21 February 1961 the new Diocese of Fort Portal was formed from part of the Diocese Mbarara. On February 1, 1966, the diocese also Kabale was separated.

On January 2, 1999 Mbarara became an independent archbishopric, which comprises 10,980 square kilometers. 856 168 Catholics belonged to an archbishopric in 2003, accounting for 38.8 % of the population of the area.

Subordinate to the archdiocese are the dioceses of Fort Portal, Hoima, Kabale and Kasese.
