Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mobile

The Archdiocese of Mobile (Latin: Archidioecesis Mobiliensis ) is a located in the United States Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Mobile, Alabama.

History

The Archdiocese of Mobile was founded on August 29, 1825 by Pope Leo XII. out of territory of the Diocese of Louisiana and the two Floridas built as Apostolic Vicariate of Alabama and Florida.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Alabama and Florida, was charged on May 15, 1829 Pope Pius VIII with the Apostolic Constitution Inter multiplices to the diocese and renamed the Diocese of Mobile. It was the Archdiocese of Baltimore is a suffragan. The Diocese of Mobile was on July 3, 1850 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Savannah. On 19 July 1850, Diocese of Mobile was the Archdiocese of New Orleans is a suffragan. The Diocese of Mobile was renamed on 30 April 1954 in Diocese of Mobile - Birmingham. On June 28, 1969, the Diocese of Mobile - Birmingham was divided into the dioceses of Birmingham and Mobile. The Diocese of Mobile was on October 1, 1975 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Pensacola - Tallahassee.

On July 29, 1980, the diocese was elevated mobile by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Sacrorum Antistites to an archbishopric.
