History

The Archdiocese of Modena - Nonantola was built in the 3rd century as the Diocese of Modena. The diocese of Modena was the archbishopric of Bologna is a suffragan.

On December 15, 1820 the diocese of Modena was incorporated into the Territorial Abbey Nonantola. The diocese of Modena was born on August 22, 1855 by Pope Pius IX. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Vel from antiquis to an archbishopric.
