Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nagasaki

The Archdiocese of Nagasaki (Latin: Archidioecesis Nagasakiensis, Japaneseカトリック 長崎 大司教 区, katorikku Nagasaki daishikyōku ) is a location in Japan Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Nagasaki.

The Archdiocese of Nagasaki, together with the suffragan Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Naha and the Oita Nagasaki ecclesiastical province, which extends over the Kyushu region, including the Ryukyu Islands.

History

The Archdiocese of Nagasaki was on May 22, 1887 by Pope Leo XIII. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Japan established as Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Japan. The Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Japan announced on 20 March 1888 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Vicariate of Central Japan. On 15 June 1891, the Vicariate Apostolic of Southern Japan was by Leo XIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution maius Non Nobis to the diocese and renamed Diocese of Nagasaki. It was the Archdiocese of Tokyo is a suffragan. On March 18, 1927, the Diocese of Nagasaki were from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Kagoshima Prefecture. A further transfer of territory took place on July 16, 1927 establishing the bishopric of Fukuoka.

The Diocese of Nagasaki was on May 4, 1959, Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Qui cotidie to an archbishopric.
