Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Natal

The Archdiocese of Natal (Latin: Archidioecesis natalensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Natal in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

History

The Diocese of Natal was established on December 29, 1909 by Pope Pius X made ​​cessions of territory of the Diocese of Paraíba and the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia is a suffragan. On 5 December 1910, the Diocese of Natal was the Archdiocese of Olinda e Recife is a suffragan. The Diocese of Natal was placed under the Archdiocese of Paraíba suffragan on February 6, 1914. On 28 July 1934, the Diocese of Natal were parts of its territory from the foundation of the diocese Mossoró. A further transfer of territory took place on November 25, 1939 establishing the bishopric Caicó.

On February 16, 1952, the Diocese of Natal was raised to an archbishopric.
