Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ozamiz

The Archdiocese of Ozamis (Latin: Archidioecesis Ozamisanus ) is a location in the Philippines Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Ozamis. It includes the province of Misamis Occidental.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded the Territorialprälatur Ozamis on January 27, 1951 from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro and it became the Archdiocese of Cebu is a suffragan. On 29 June of the same year it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro.

On February 17, 1971, she lost a part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Territorialprälatur Iligan. At the same time it was raised to the bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Zamboanga is a suffragan. With the Apostolic Constitution Quo maius it was raised on 24 January 1983 in the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums.
