Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Raipur

The Archdiocese of Raipur (Latin: Archidioecesis Raipurensis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Raipur, India. It includes the districts of Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg and Rajnandgaon of Chhattisgarh.

History

Pope Paul VI. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Raipur with the Apostolic Constitution religio vera on January 16, 1964 from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Nagpur.

On March 23, 1972, lost parts of its territory to the Apostolic Exarchate of Jagdalpur. With the Apostolic Constitution Ecclesia Quamquam it was collected on July 5, 1973 bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Bhopal assumed as suffragan.

The survey was carried out to Metropolitanerzbistum on 27 February 2004 with the Apostolic Constitution Cum constet Ecclesiam.
