Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ranchi

The Archdiocese of Ranchi (Latin: Archidioecesis Ranchiensis ) is a located in India Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Ranchi.

History

The Archdiocese of Ranchi on May 25, 1927, Pope Pius XI. In omnes Christianized out of territory of the Archdiocese of Calcutta built with the Apostolic Constitution as Diocese of Ranchi. It was the Archdiocese of Calcutta is a suffragan. The Diocese of Ranchi announced on 14 June 1951 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Sambalpur. A further transfer of territory took place on December 13, 1951 establishing the bishopric of Raigarh - Ambikapur.

On September 19, 1953, the Diocese of Ranchi was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Mutant res to the archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Ranchi announced on June 5, 1971 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Daltonganj. On 22 June 1984, the Archdiocese of Ranchi were parts of its territory from the foundation of the diocese Port Blair. For more territorial concessions were made on 28 May 1993 establishing the dioceses Dumka and Simdega and on 1 April 1995 establishing the bishopric of Khunti.

The Archdiocese of Ranchi comprises the districts of Lohardaga and Ranchi in the state of Jharkhand.
