Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Boniface

The Archdiocese of Saint -Boniface (Latin: Sancti Archidioecesis Bonifacii ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Saint -Boniface.

History

The Archdiocese of Saint -Boniface was born on April 16, 1844 by Pope Gregory XVI. built with the Apostolic Constitution Ex debito from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Quebec as Apostolic Vicariate of North -West. On June 4, 1847 the Vicariate Apostolic of North -West was by Pope Pius IX. raised to the bishopric and renamed diocese Saint -Boniface. The Diocese of Saint -Boniface announced on 8 April 1862 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Vicariate of Athabaska Mackenzie. A further transfer of territory took place on September 22, 1871 establishing the bishopric of Saint Albert.

On September 22, 1871, the Diocese of Saint -Boniface was by Pius IX. raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Saint -Boniface was on July 11, 1882 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Vicariate of Pontiac. Other annexations took place on June 4, 1891 establishing the Apostolic Vicariate of Saskatchewan, and on March 4, 1910, regarding the establishment of the Diocese of Regina. On December 4, 1915, the Archdiocese of Saint -Boniface were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. Another area assignment on April 29, 1952 founding of the Diocese of Fort William.
