Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sorocaba

The Archdiocese of Sorocaba (Latin: Archidioecesis Sorocabanus ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Sorocaba in São Paulo state.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the bishopric of Sorocaba on July 4, 1924, the Apostolic Constitution Ubi praesules of annexations of the dioceses Botucatu, Taubaté and of the Archdiocese of São Paulo, where it was assumed as a suffragan. With the bull Brasilienses fideles it was elevated to an archdiocese on 29 April 1992.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • March 2, 1968 to the diocese Itapeva;
  • April 15, 1998 to the bishopric of Itapetininga.

Territory

The Archdiocese of Sorocaba includes the municipalities of Sorocaba, Araçoiaba da Serra, Boituva Cerquilho, Iperó, Jumirim, Piedade, Porto Feliz, Salto de Pirapora, Tapiraí, Tietê and Votorantim the State of São Paulo.
