Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Teresina

The Archdiocese of Teresina (Latin: Archidioecesis Teresianus ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in the Brazilian state of Piauí in Teresina.

History

Originally the diocese in 1902 leaving as Piauí diocese from the diocese of São Luís do Maranhão. 1920 territories were ceded to the newly built Territorialprälatur Bom Jesus do Piauí. During the construction of the Diocese of Teresina in December 1944 arose from the diocesan territory with the dioceses of Oeiras and Parnaíba two other dioceses. On 9 August 1952, the diocese to an archdiocese Teresina was charged. In the 1970s, the last of territory took place at the new bishoprics Picos and the Campo Maior.
