Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuguegarao

The Archdiocese of Tuguegarao (Latin: Archidioecesis Tuguegaraoanus ) is a location in the Philippines Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Tuguegarao. It includes the province of Cagayan, except those of the Calayan, which belongs to Territorialprälatur Batanes.

History

Pope Pius X founded the bishopric of Tuguegarao on April 10, 1910 made cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia and it became the Archdiocese of Manila, is a suffragan. The seminary, dedicated to Saint Hyacinth, was founded in 1918.

On June 29, 1951, was part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia. With the Apostolic Constitution Maxim Opere optantibus it was collected on September 21, 1974 in the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • November 30, 1950 at the Batanes and Babuyan Islands Territorialprälatur;
  • November 7, 1966 at the Territorialprälatur Bayombong;
  • January 31, 1970 in the Diocese of Ilagan.
