The Diocese of Aba was established on April 2, 1990 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Praeteritis quidem out of territory of the Diocese of Umuahia. First bishop was Vincent Valentine Egwuchukwu Ezeonyia CSSp.
