The Diocese of Belley - Ars (Latin: Dioecesis Bellicensis - Arsensis ) is a located in France Roman Catholic diocese based in Belley.

History

The Diocese of Belley - Ars was built as a diocese of Belley in the 5th century and the Archdiocese of Besançon is a suffragan. The diocese issued in 1515 parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Bourg -en- Bresse, which was already dissolved again in 1534. On 29 November 1801, the diocese of Belley was dissolved and the area was annexed to the archbishopric of Lyon. The diocese of Belley was established on October 6, 1822 by Pope Pius VII, with the Apostolic Constitution Paternae charitatis again and the Archbishopric of Besançon is a suffragan. 1949, the diocese of Belley was the Archdiocese of Lyon is a suffragan. On 23 January 1988, the diocese of Belley was renamed the Diocese of Belley - Ars.
