History

The Diocese of Birmingham was founded on June 28, 1969 as a result of the division of the Diocese of Mobile - Birmingham and the Archdiocese of New Orleans was a suffragan. On July 29, 1980, the Diocese of Birmingham was the archbishopric subordinated Mobile suffragan.
