Roman Catholic Diocese of Calbayog

The Diocese of Calbayog (Latin: Dioecesis Calbayoganus ) is a community on the island of Samar in the Philippines Roman Catholic diocese based in Calbayog City. It comprises part of the province of Samar.

History

Pope Pius X founded it on 10 April 1910 made cessions of territory of the Diocese of Cebu and it was the archbishopric of Manila assumed as suffragan.

It was placed under the Archdiocese of Cebu as a suffragan on April 28, 1934. On November 15, 1982, there was the Archdiocese of Palo assumed as suffragan.

Parts of its territory it lost to the establishment of various dioceses:

  • 28 November 1937 to the bishopric of Palo;
  • October 22, 1960 in the Diocese of Borongan;
  • December 5, 1974 to the bishopric of Catarman.
