Roman Catholic Diocese of Crete

The Diocese of Crete (Latin: Dioecesis Candiensis ) is a location in Greece Roman Catholic diocese based in Heraklion.

It was built in 1213 as an archbishopric, but downgraded on August 28, 1874 rank and a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Naxos - Tinos.

Due to the Capuchin care and always without diocesan priests, the Bishop of Syros - Milos and Santorini also Apostolic Administrator of the diocese. The last bishop of Crete, Lorenzo Giacomo Tedesco, changed on May 5, 1935, the diocese.

The cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. Patron of the diocese is St. Francis of Assisi. Churches there are in Chania, Heraklion and Salaminos (Rethymno ).
